Expiring Virtual Machines

For workers assigned to short-term projects, temporary employees, or for a software evaluation, create restricted virtual machines that expire at a predefined date and time. When powered on, the virtual machine will query the server at specified time intervals, storing the current system time in the restricted virtual machine’s policy file as the last trusted timestamp. An expired virtual machine will automatically suspend and will not restart without administrator intervention.

• Fusion contains an outofbounds read/write vulnerability and a Timeofcheck Timeofuse (TOCTOU) vulnerability in the virtual USB UHCI (Universal Host Controller Interface). These issues may allow a guest to execute code on the host. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the identifiers CVE20195518 (outofbounds read/write) and CVE20195519 (TOCTOU) to these issues. • Fusion contains an outofbounds write vulnerability in the e1000 and e1000e virtual network adapters. Successful exploitation of this twobyte heap overwrite may lead to a privilege escalation. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the identifier CVE20195515 to this issue. See VMSA20190005 for further information.
• Fusion contains a security vulnerability due to certain unauthenticated APIs accessible through a web socket. An attacker may exploit this issue by tricking the host user to execute a JavaScript to perform unauthorized functions on the guest machine where VMware Tools is installed. This may further be exploited to execute commands on the guest machines. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the identifier CVE20195514 to this issue.
